Annual favorites find a home at The Theatre at Meydenbauer Center. Each year, The Theatre at Meydenbauer is proud to play host to
productions by the following local, regional and national performing arts
groups:
Ballet Bellevue, the Eastside's own professional ballet company. Ballet Bellevue brings to our community the purity of classical ballet under the direction of former Bolshoi soloist, Viktoria Titova. Finding its home at The Theatre at Meydenbauer Center ever since 1993, Ballet Bellevue presents full-length ballets and repertory programs featuring the world's finest guest artists, while also showcasing dancers who have been trained in the many fine institutions of our own Northwest. Children from regional dance schools are often invited to share the stage with professional dancers, especially for holiday performances such as The Snow Maiden, American Jazz Nutcracker, and Ballet Bellevue's magical production of The Sleeping Beauty. Bellevue Civic Theatre presents outstanding contemporary theatre and modern musicals. Productions like Angry Housewives, Steel Magnolias, Lend Me A Tenor, Catch Me If You Can, Standing By and Jesus Christ Superstar spotlight this company's consistent level of quality.
Founded in 1984, the Bellevue Chamber Chorus is a non-profit organization consisting of 28 professional and avocational musicians of diverse backgrounds, performing music of various styles from all musical periods. Each fall the Chorus presents its Master Composer Series, which features the great works of many of the familiar and also lesser-known composers from early music periods through the 21st century. A very popular "POPS" concert is offered in March showcasing everything from Swing to Jazz to Broadway hits. In late May/early June the Chorus performs historical and contemporary music from different countries as part of its annual Music From Around the World Series. These concerts showcase music performed in their native languages. The Chorus also offers a special holiday family concert where children are free. In 1993 the Chorus had the honor of premiering the new Theatre at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.
Dedicated to the preservation and performance of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, this community-based organization produces two performances annually at The Theatre at Meydenbauer Center. Contact: 425-643-7238.
Bellevue Philharmonic Orchestra R. Joseph Scott founded the Bellevue Philharmonic in 1967. Over the following three decades, the orchestra grew from an amateur ensemble into a fully professional orchestra in 1998, and earned a reputation for performing masterworks of the symphonic repertoire. Today the orchestra is the Eastside’s oldest and largest performing arts group. In 1997, the orchestra launched an international search for a new conductor. 155 conductors from all over the world applied for the position. In April 1998, Fusao Kajima was appointed Music Director, and began conducting the orchestra in September of that year. Winner of numerous conducting awards, Maestro Kajima is in demand as a guest conductor worldwide. He is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Michigan, where he studied under Gustav Meier.

Each year, The Theatre at Meydenbauer Center co-sponsors the Seattle Opera's Young Artists program. This program develops the very best artists destined to perform nationally and internationally in the coming years. 2002's production was a new and original staging of Rossini's La Cenerentola, loosely based upon the fairy tale Cinderella. The Young Artists Program class includes twelve young singers who are beginning their professional careers in opera. Chosen through national auditions, the twelve singers receive comprehensive training at Seattle Opera that extends over a nine-month period. The program provides instruction and coaching for young singers in all aspects of a career in opera—learning complete roles, languages and diction, acting, stage movement and fight choreography, and theater arts. The young artists also perform in a series of recitals and concerts and participate in the Opera’s educational outreach projects. The expansion of the Young Artists Program, both in singer training and in educational outreach, has been made possible through a $1.25-million grant from the Wallace-Reader’s Digest Fund.
