It is an honor for me, as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, to share insights from a decade of dedicated sleep surgical practice. Inspired by a meeting with Dr. Nelson Powell during residency, I completed the sleep surgery fellowship with Stanford Otolaryngology and Dr. Robert Riley in 2014. I stayed as faculty and was promoted to Associate Professor and Director of the Sleep Surgery Fellowship. During those years, the original Riley-Powell Sleep Surgery Protocol was updated. Central to the update is renewed focus on the physiology of nasal breathing and pharyngeal stability during sleep. Beyond a discussion of diagnostic and surgical updates of sleep-disordered breathing, I will also share observations on the global rise of dental sleep medicine.  Thank you for inviting me to promote the central tenet of my work (with your collaboration) – “Restoring sleep airway health is a gateway to wellness.”

The Step Up to the Plate Benefit Luncheon is Bellevue LifeSpring’s cornerstone partnership and community event.

It brings together hundreds of Bellevue’s neighbors, colleagues, philanthropists, and local leaders dedicated to creating brighter
futures for children in our community. This inspiring luncheon provides a platform for meaningful networking, insightful discussions,
