The 11th “Moon Festival Melody” Concert Series – The Voices of Cello will be held on October 5 at 3:30 PM at Meydenbauer Theater. The annual concert celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival, highlighting Chinese traditions and bridging Eastern and Western music.
This year’s program features unique collaborations: the cello with a cappella in “Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon”; the cello with children’s poetry recitation in “May We All Be Blessed with Longevity”; the cello with orchestra in the film score “Pirates of the Caribbean”; and the cello with violin, piano, and percussion in “Butterfly Lovers”.
Founded and directed by renowned cellist Kai Chen, former principal cellist and Chinese National First-Class Performer, the series continues to bring new works and fresh perspectives each year. Guest artists include Canadian pianist Andrew Yang, violinist Christina Wu, composer and percussionist Chan Tang, and the a cappella ensemble The Sleepless Singers. Audiences will experience a vibrant mix of classical and modern music, as well as a dialogue between Eastern and Western traditions.

An original stage adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.
The story of the “froglet” Mowgli, raised by a pack of wolves and taught the Law of the Jungle by his wise teacher—the bear Baloo. A tale of growing up among the animals of the jungle and becoming human. A story of conflict with the predator and man-eater, the tiger Sher-Khan, and of course, a story of friendship with the panther Bagheera and the python Kaa.
Theatre33 invites audiences ages 5 and up to see what it means to be human—through the eyes of the animal world. Duration of the performance is 1 hour. Enjoy a mini craft fair in the lobby – lovingly handmade crafts and goodies for the whole family.
